ANTOINE GYORI

Antoine Gyori is a photojournalist who began his career in 1985 with a series of features on South America that were published in several French and Brazilian magazines. He joined the daily newspaper France Soir in 1986 and worked for Le Figaro. In May 1990, he was recruited to join the Sygma agency in Paris where he covered international news events such as the presidential elections and the rise of fundamentalism in Algeria; the Gulf war; the war in the former Yugoslavia; life in Palestine, the first and second Intifadas; and crucial events in Iraq. He went twice in Afghanistan since the beginning of the operation Enduring Freedom. His coverage of such volatile events did not leave him unscathed. Antoine Gyori is now a Paris based photographer, working for Corbis.

Gyori’s work is regularly published in Paris Match, Le Monde, Time, Newsweek, Stern, and Focus, among others. His photographic works have received several awards, including the Clarion Award in 1997 for his work on the war in Chechnya .He was also nominated at the World Press in 1994 for his coverage of Sarajevo.
